Donald Rucker – Owner / Managing PartnerDonald Rucker is a jack of all trades; stereos, cars, bikes, ladies. You name it and chances are he can tune it up. His love of bikes and riding has led him to create one of the best and most energetic shops around - not to mention the only one in Maryland with an indoor park right behind it. Got some free time? Stop by the shop. It's a crazy fun place. Donald's influence, love of friends and up-beat attitude permeate the atmosphere. His countless friends/clientele are always coming in and out; whether it's for business, or just to shoot the breeze and play the Wii on the 50" flat screen in the back room. Donald is also one of the greatest (and possibly best) ambassadors for the sport of bike riding. He rides road, BMX, street, park, mountain, downhill and freeride. He'll talk shop with any level rider and will organize a group ride just the same. He has a way of making people feel comfortable and accepted no matter what their level of ability is. Rucker weights in as an Aquarius at 35 years old, with brown eyes. |

Phil Burleson - Owner / PartnerPhil Burleson is a serial entrepreneur - and a chef. His business sense and taste for good food have combined on two separate endeavors culminating in successful restaurant launches in Germantown, MD. That's right; Agro Dolce and Amada Amante have been staple Germantown restaurants for quite sometime. After deciding that more time needed to be spent with his wife and two kids, Burleson decided to start a new venture that would allow him to achieve a better quality of life while also keeping active. He loved to ride and partnered with Donald Rucker in the Fall of 2005. Phil is an avid rider and enjoys the more extreme side of biking: downhill, freeride and park / street, but Phil also enjoys cross-country riding and road. Burleson weights in as a Capricorn at 36 years old, with green eyes. |
The Three Aspects of Avalon's Philosophy:
1. The Family of Cycling.
Introduce as many people to the sport of cycling as possible. Get the kids away from the TV and video games and get them more exercise. Provide another avenue for friends and families to spend more time together in a healthy environment where they are not judged or criticized for their abilities. We use the shop to help progress and promote the enjoyment that comes from riding a bike.
2. Never Cater Solely to the Majority of Cyclists or Cycling Trends.
Whether you are a recreational rider, mountain biker or roadie, we want to provide the equipment that you need and the expertise that should be expected from a professional bike shop. Our staff is compiled of avid riders from a variety of riding disciplines. We are ready to give you the best service and expertise you have every experienced.
3. Don’t Let Life Ride By.
We will never take ourselves too seriously. We opened a bike shop so that we can be surrounded by the things and the people we love.
