The Mid-Atlantic Cup.
Germantown and Avalon’s Team 9.8 took the top four spots in Pro Downhill in the Mid Atlantic Cup Series, put on by Racers Edge. The series overall went to Trevyn Newpher, with Jason Beckley, Brian Price and B.J. Treglia filling the next three spots.
The team also took three of the top five spots in the Dual overall standings, with Beckley capturing the title.
The team was pretty psyched to have all its riders place so high in the series, which hundreds of riders took part in. Winning the overall in the Pro Dual and Pro Dh was icing on the cake.
Our grassroots guys faired pretty well too. Andrew Farrell added a second-place overall in the Expert Senior Downhill and a strong fourth in the Expert Open Dual. Corey Greenelch took home the bronze in the Expert Vet.

Diablo Domination #1
Diablo Domination Series, number one: Lets be honest here. This race was about the US Open. Sure it was part of the Gravity East Series and the first of four in the Domination Series, but was everyone here wanted to know was, are they ready for the US Open the next week. There wasn’t really a lot on the line, because everyone knew they would be back the next weekend to really test what they had. Team 9.8 did not disappoint with Clark, Beckley and Treglia all scoring top 20 finishes in the pro class. Not bad for such a large field that was so stacked with good riders.

U.S. Open
The US Open is a big race, debatably, the biggest. The payout and prize list is unmatched in the states. This race brings out the best of the best, including World Champion Sam Hill and some of his closest rivals. Most people don’t show up to win, but to see where they stack up with the worlds best. But they do show up – in HUGE numbers.
There are only two classes, Amateur and Open. There is only one course. The top 100 advance in amateur and the top 60 move on in the open category Sunday’s finals. And with 500 competitors, times are tight and nerves run high.
Corey Greeneltch finished passed 290 of his competitors to finish fantastically in eighth place. A huge congratulations goes to him.
The course itself was mostly like last years, with the addition of a short off camber section, a small rock garden and a 35-foot step-down jump at the end of the course. Conditions were very dry, which made it feel like you were on ice at times.
In one of the more odd incidents from the weekend, Team 9.8 rider Brian Price, lost his shoe during his qualifying run. It just fell off. He never even crashed or put his foot down. He kept on riding in his sock on his clipless pedal, and even hit the big step down before the finish line.

Massanutten
Massanutten proved to be a pretty great weekend for the Germantown Teams. Coming off a successful start of the season the week before in Reading, Pa., the team was motivated. And it showed in the results. Team 9.8 members Trevyn Newpher and Jason Beckley took first and Third in the Pro class, with Brian Price just off the podium despite loosing his chain in his race run. The grassroots guys killed it as well putting in some good results in their field.

Plattekill #1
Team 9.8 rider Josh Clark kicked his season off right this weekend, grabbing a second place finish in pro class at the first of the five race series at Plattekill Ski Resort in Roxbury, NY. If this season is to be anything like those of years passed, look for Josh to make a habit of top finishes.

Duryea Downhill
Well the downhill season has officially started. The first stop was the Duryea Downhill in Reading, Pa. Being the first event of the Gravity East Series, an eleven race series that will hold event up and down the whole east coast, the big hitters were we all there.
The Germantown teams were in full effect with Jason Beckley leading Team 9.8 with a third place in the pro class and Andrew Farrell grabbing a second in the expert class.
It could not have been a better weekend. The weather was perfect, and it was May, so the temperatures were perfect as well. The course was fast and had a lot of flow with a little bit of technical thrown in. Reading Racing put on an excellent event, and we are looking forward to the rest of the season.
